The Ford Explorer is one of the best-selling SUVs in America, for many good reasons. This versatile vehicle helped start the shift in the automobile market away from cars, and its latest iteration, the 2025 model, continues the legacy with significant updates.

Introducing the 2025 Ford Explorer Redesign

Are you ready for the next-generation Ford Explorer? It once again raises the bar with updates inside and out, top to bottom. The 2025 Explorer features new, cutting-edge technology, a bold new exterior look, and streamlined trims that make it even easier to choose the one that fits your needs.

Detailed Overview of the 2025 Ford Explorer

The lineup of 2025 Ford Explorers is smaller than before, but each model offers redesigned front ends, updated interiors, and lots of tech upgrades.

Exterior Enhancements: Style Meets Functionality

The redesigned Ford Explorer arrives with an updated look from the front, with a larger grille, new headlights, and front bumpers that look like a skid plate and sit lower and wider than before.

Each of the Explorer trims has its own unique grille. The Active grille has black mesh with chrome bars, the ST-Line and ST grilles have gloss-black honeycomb with unique badging, and the Platinum grille features a wing design with satin chrome and black accents.

The taillights also have a new look, featuring a horizontal trim element that stretches across the back to connect them. If you want to make your Explorer stand out, you can opt for the available black-painted roof.

Interior Innovations: Next-Level Comfort and Convenience

The 2025 Ford Explorer interior offers comfort for passengers in all three rows. Ford completely redesigned the dashboard and pushed it forward to give front-seat passengers more space. A new storage space sits below the infotainment screen with room for two phones, which is even more convenient if you choose to add the wireless charging station.

The cabin features an abundance of soft-touch materials, and the top-level Platinum trim comes with a heated steering wheel, ventilated front seats, and heated second-row seats. This luxurious trim also offers tri-zone climate control and, for added convenience, a universal garage door opener.

The Power Under the Hood: Engine Options and Performance Features

Most Ford Explorer models come with a 2.3-liter turbo four-cylinder engine that generates 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. The ST ups the ante with a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-6 engine that puts out 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque, offering more exhilarating power and stronger acceleration. Both engines are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and offer the option of rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.

Advanced Features and Technologies

The 2025 Ford Explorer arrives with a long list of new and advanced technology. It offers all kinds of new features to keep the information and entertainment flowing.

Cutting-Edge Infotainment and Connectivity

Every Explorer trim level now comes with a 12.3-inch touch screen in the center of the dash and a 13.2-inch digital instrument panel in front of the driver. Ford Digital Experience, the new Android-based infotainment system, offers smartphone mirroring and access to the Google Play Store to make it easy to download various apps, watch YouTube, or access Amazon Prime Video.

The navigation system uses Google Maps, which shows maps and directions in the center part of the touch-screen display for easy viewing. Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa are both available for voice controls, and the system supports over-the-air updates. You can also choose to add a Wi-Fi hot spot or subscribe to Ford Premium Connectivity for a 5G wireless connection.

State-of-the-Art Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

Along with its infotainment updates, the 2025 Explorer has received new safety technology and equipment. The most significant upgrade is the addition of BlueCruise hands-free driving technology, which is available for every trim except the Active model.

BlueCruise can be used on over 130,000 miles of divided highways across North America. When the conditions are right, the driver can activate the system and take their hands off the wheel and their foot off the gas. The system accelerates, brakes, changes lanes, and keeps the vehicle centered in its lane of travel. The latest version of BlueCruise will even adjust the Explorer’s lane position if a vehicle in the lane next to you starts to get too close.

Every 2025 Explorer comes with Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist. This comprehensive bundle of advanced driver aids includes automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, and blind-spot monitoring.

Driving Experience

Riding in the 2025 Explorer is smooth and comfortable, thanks to the smart 10-speed automatic transmission that knows just when to shift gears. The six different driving modes, including  Normal, Tow/Haul, Eco, Sport, Slippery, and Off Road, make it easy to tailor the Explorer’s performance to your needs and the driving conditions.

Towing Capabilities and Off-Road Performance

Equipped with the Class III Trailer Tow Package as standard, all 2025 Explorer models can tow up to 5,000 pounds. The package includes a Class III hitch receiver, side-wind stabilization, and trailer sway control.

The Special Edition Ford Explorer ST

The special edition Explorer ST not only comes with a stronger turbo engine but also offers owners the unique opportunity to take part in the Ford Performance Racing School’s ST Driving Experience. This program takes place in Park City, Utah, or Ashville, North Carolina, and gives drivers all the information they need to get the most out of all their ST is capable of.
