Comparing the 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E and Tesla Model Y

When you look at the Ford Mustang Mach-E and the Tesla Model Y, it’s clear these two electric vehicles (EVs) have very different personalities. The Mach-E has muscle-car heritage with a sporty edge, while the Model Y delivers Tesla’s blend of innovation and modern style. But when it comes to finding the electric SUV that you want in your driveway, there are several factors to consider. To see which model comes out on top, check out this Tesla vs. Mach-E comparison guide from our team at Planet Ford Dallas.

Performance and Driving Experience

The Ford Mustang has a long history of power and performance. The Mach-E version gives the classic Mustang an electric spin. To maximize power, the GT and Rally models have electric motors that generate up to 480 horsepower and can go from 0 to 60 mph in under four seconds. The standard GT gets 480 horsepower and 600 lb-ft of torque, but adding the Performance Upgrade Package bumps it up to 700 lb-ft.

Mach-E models with a single electric motor and the standard battery pack churn out 264 horsepower, while the extended range battery raises that number to 290. You can also set it up with two electric motors and the standard battery to get 325 horsepower, while the extended-range battery delivers 365 horsepower.

The Model Y comes in three different models. The Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) trim has one electric motor that puts out 295 horsepower, while the Long Range All-Wheel Drive (AWD) trim has two electric motors that generate 384 horsepower. For the most power, the Performance trim has two electric motors that deliver 456 horsepower.

Range, Charging, and Efficiency

The Ford Mustang Mach-E offers an impressive electric driving range. Models with the standard-range battery can travel up to 250 miles on a full charge, or up to 320 miles on a full charge with the extended-range battery.

The Model Y with RWD can last up to 337 miles, and it accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in under seven seconds. The AWD version drops to 311 miles, but it can accelerate to 60 mph in under five seconds. Finally, the Performance trim will only get you 277 miles of range, but it’s also the fastest option, with a 0-to-60 mph sprint time under four seconds.

All of the Mach-E trims have fast-charging capabilities, and they come with a home charging unit. This plugs into a standard 120-volt residential outlet and can add up to 30 miles of range if you charge it overnight, whereas plugging it into a 240-volt outlet can charge your battery up to 80% overnight.

The Model Y uses the Tesla NACS charging units. With a Level 2 charger, it will take up to eight hours to fully charge the battery. Using a home charger with a household outlet, it can take between eight and 10 hours to fill up.

Interior, Comfort, and Technology

Ford designed the Mach-E with comfort in mind. A power-adjustable driver’s seat comes standard, along with dual-zone automatic climate control and synthetic leather upholstery. The Premium trim adds a power-adjustable front passenger seat and heated front seats.

The Mach-E starts with a 15.5-inch infotainment touch screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and integrated navigation. A wireless charging pad also comes standard, along with a six-speaker stereo system. The Premium trim upgrades the stereo to a 10-speaker Bang & Olufsen system and adds multicolor ambient lighting.

The Tesla features a 15-inch touch screen in the dashboard, which comes equipped with navigation apps and streaming services for entertainment. However, you’ll need to pay for a subscription to access certain services. One of the big differences between the Tesla and the Ford is that the Tesla doesn’t have access to Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. This means you can’t connect your phone to access your contacts and apps. However, you do have a wireless charging pad to keep your phone charged while you drive, and a 14-speaker stereo comes standard.

Safety and Driver Assistance Features

No matter which of these electric SUVs you choose, you’ll have a full suite of advanced driver-assistance features to help keep you alert and prevent collisions.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E comes with:

  • Forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking
  • Evasive steering assist
  • Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts
  • Lane-keep assist
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Rear parking sensors
  • A 360-degree surround-view camera system

In addition to all these advanced driver-assistance features, the Mach-E also includes Ford’s BlueCruise hands-free driving system. It works on thousands of miles of highways across the United States, and when activated, it will take over the steering, braking, and acceleration to keep you moving with traffic.

The Tesla Model Y comes with:

  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Forward collision warning
  • Lane-keep assist
  • Blind-spot monitoring

The Model Y also comes with Tesla Autopilot, which uses adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist for a hands-free driving experience.
